Chevrolet's new FIA World Touring Car Championship-challenger, the Cruze, completed its first public test at the Portuguese track Estoril earlier this week. Robert Huff and Alain Menu were behind the wheel of the car.
"The Cruze is a great car and feels fast straight out of the box. We obviously still are at the very early stages of development but already now you can feel how much better it handles and what an advantage the wider track will be in the races," said Huff.

SEAT coureur Tiago Monteiro is in onderhandeling om het BCN GP2 team over te nemen, dus ik betwijfel of we hem volgend seizoen opnieuw in het WTCC gaan zien.

BMW lines up again in 2009 WTCC - Return to the ALMS.
In 2009 BMW Motorsport will put its touring and sports car programmes into action on several popular stages, and will use racing versions of the BMW 3 series to fight for victories and titles.
BMW once again take part in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, where the marque will be aiming to recapture the World Championship titles it missed out on with the BMW 320si WTCC in 2008. The newly developed BMW M3 ALMS will line up in the American Le Mans Series, where it is charged with writing another chapter in the success story of BMW in the US. “Touring cars have traditionally been very important to BMW,” says BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. “The same applied to GT sport, to which we are returning in 2009 with the new BMW M3. Our commitment to the World Touring Car Championship and the ALMS will allow us to demonstrate the sporting properties of our cars to a wider public.”

Between 2005 and 2007, BMW won all the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships in the WTCC. Last year it had to make do with second place for the first time. Theissen explains: “I am pleased that a compromise was reached regarding the 2009 rules. This balances out the different engine concepts and should allow for fair and even competition between the manufacturers. We are absolutely determined to be back at the top of the WTCC at the finale of the 2009 season in Macau. We shall announce our team and driver line up at a later point in time.”

SEAT are set to continue in the World Touring Car Championship 2009 with the same drivers as last season: Jordi Gené, Gabriele Tarquini, Rickard Rydell, Tiago Monteiro and Yvan Muller.
"Why should we change our drivers after the successful season last year? Never change a winning team," said SEAT Motorsport boss Jamie Puig exclusively to TouringCarTimes.

The team will continue using the Léon-model for 2009 despite the previous indications of a switch to the Exeo-model.
"The Exeo is interesting for us, but we have not started any development on it. We are going to run the Léon for 2009 and it is still a competitive car," said Puig to TouringCarTimes.

Campos lijkt dan de inboedel van N.Technology over te nemen. Voormalig BMW coureur Porteiro heeft tegen Spaanse media bevestigd dat hij voor Campos gaat rijden. De Spanjaard heeft in het verleden voor het GP2 team van Adrian Campos gereden.

Coronel ook komend seizoen in een SEAT:

Tom Coronel komt ook dit jaar weer met een SEAT Leon in het WK Toerwagens uit. Dat maakte de Nederlandse SEAT-importeur Pon Car, die Coronels WTCC-deelname grotendeels financiert, zojuist officieel bekend. Evenals vorig jaar wordt de wedstrijdauto van de coureur uit Eemnes ingezet door het Spaanse SUNRED-team van Joan Orus, dat niet alleen om de hoek bij SEAT Sport in Martorell gehuisvest is, maar ook nauwe banden met de sportafdeling van de fabriek onderhoudt. Wellicht wat teleurstellend voor degenen die op een diesel voor Coronel hadden gehoopt, is de aankondiging dat onze landgenoot opnieuw in een SEAT met benzinemotor zit. Door reglementswijzigingen ten nadele van de diesels (maximale turbodruk, kleinere diameter van de air-restrictor) en de nieuwe regeling voor handicapgewichten (resultaatballast nu voor alle auto's van hetzelfde type in plaats van individueel per rijder) zien de betrokkenen echter wel goede kansen voor Coronel.

Met de nieuwe ballast regels is het misschien niet zo slecht dat hij geen diesel heeft.
