617. Circuit Gilles VIlleneuve - Montréal, QC, Canada

Permanent home of the Canadian Grand Prix F1.
The track is located on the island Ile Notre Dame in the St.–Lawrence River.
It was originally called Circuit de Ile Notre Dame but changed in 1982 after the death of Villeneuve.
On 08 october 1978, Villeneuve won his first GP in a Ferrari at his home GP.
Initially only one event was held on the track each year ... the Canadian GP and its support races.
In 1990 the World Sports Prototype Championship made his only visit to the track. The race was stopped when a manhole cover
which had been pulled free by the ground effect of the car ahead flew into Jesus Pareja’s Brun 962C. The collision lead
to a great fire. Concerns about other manhole covers made the organizers stop the race just over half distance.
Till 2006 the track was the only where F1 and Champ Car raced on the same lay-out (Yes ... F1 was quicker).
