Blomqvist kampioen ROC legends

Quote:

Blomqvist retains ROC Legends title.

Stig Blomqvist retained his Michelin Race of Champions Legends title after defeating Timo Salonen in the final at the Circuito de la Ciudad Deportiva Islas Canarias.

Winning for the third year in a row, the 1984 world champion was pushed all the way, beating his Finnish rival in the Ford Escort Mk I BDA by just nine-tenths of a second, and the Saab 93 Turbo 4x4 by just over a second.

"Maybe someone will be able to take the title off my hands sooner or later!" Blomqvist joked after his hard fought victory.

"It was a good contest," defeated finalist Salonen admitted, "I thought I had beaten him in the Ford - it was pretty close though wasn't it!"

Blomqvist triumphed over Per Eklund in the opening semi-final, taking the flag in the Mitsubishi EVO VI four seconds ahead of the Swede. However, the contest between fellow semi-finalists Salonen and double world champion Miki Biasion was a closer fought affair. Although Salonen emerged victorious from both heats, Biasion was leading in the Escort Mk I until he spun in a cloud of dust and smoke, eventually crossing the line sixteen seconds behind.

Bjorn Waldegaard and Antonio Zanini were the other two contestants in an undersubscribed event, but went out at the first hurdle.

echt talent blijft eeuwig bestaan
