FIA GT STOP PRESS: Lister win nullified

Winning car is disqualified by stewards

The winning car in today (Sunday)’s fifth round of the FIA GT Championship at Zolder, Belgium, has been disqualified after failing post-race scrutineering.

The Lister Storm of Jamie Campbell-Walter and Tom Coronel, which had earlier produced one of the most fantastic victories in the championship’s history, failed a vacuum test of its engine’s airbox. This would allow more power to the engine, as air would circumnavigate the car’s air restrictors, which are used to limit the potential of the sportscar’s output.

The team has until 19.00 local time (18.00 BST) to appeal against the decision and Lister boss Laurence Pearce is understood to be on his way back to Zolder. Labre’s Chrysler Viper, which leads the series, thus inherits the win.

The winning team in the N-GT class has also been penalised. Driver Luca Riccitelli drove over his allowed maximum time in the RWS Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3 before handing over to team mate Andrea Boldrini.

The car has received a 1m44s penalty, which drops it to third in class. The win now goes to the Babini/Moccia Porsche.
