Renaud Kuppens took over the wheel after 1h15 but no luck for him as, five laps into his relay, in front of him the number 33 Jet Alliance Aston Martin DBR9 of Karl Wendlinger spun out. Wendlinger, who had to retire also, throw up a huge amout of gravel onto the circuit and a stone bored its way into the engine of the Gillet and caused the burst of the drive belt of distribution.
